A. I recently looked up similar statistics because I wanted to compare the crime rate in the US to other countries. Anyway, I googled "prison population" followed by the specific location and that worked pretty well. If you're looking for something specific to a particular state then try the .gov website for that state.

What prison in the United States provides the best mental health services to prisoners?
Q. Hi, I am doing a "proposal" that is aim at targeting the deficiencies that prisons across the United States suffered, especially the State of California. In this proposal, I have to provide details of the common problems that affect prisoners inside prison who suffer from mental health problems. This proposal will consider the economic crisis that limits the government of California from providing better mental health treatment inside prison. So, which of the 50 states provides better mental health treatment to prisoners, excluding the State of California? Mmm, perhaps cost or something like that. Thank You!

A. Not so much an answer but an observation, my dear pal was on death row in San Quentin and he often wrote about how so many guys became so mentally ill that they were no longer fit for execution. Sadly this proved to be true when he took his own life in June this year, says it all for me. Peace

A. You want the straight dope. I wont mince my words. Prison is full of mainly Black men. Big badass black men who have like a 200 yr grudge behind them. They simply "Hate" the white man. They hate the white man because they blame him for screwing him up and putting him in prison. For them the outside world is the white mans world. The prison is a black mans world and many of them will say "Now boy the rabbits got the gun" So prison is really a black mans world. They walk around and hunt like packs of wolves and deliberately seek out (Especially) young white guys who are non aggressive and first timers. I dont think i need to tell you what they intend to do with you. But if you've never had a fight in your life learn to Fight, fight fight… [cont.]

How has prison reform changed in the last 15 years and what are we doing about prison reform now?
Q. I am only interested in the american prison system. Also, what kind of changes have happened that increased the incarceration rate to 1 in 100 americans in prison. What type of programs (if any) do we use to help the prisoners enter into society and maintain like ordinary citizens after they are paroled, and how many wind up returning to prison because of the lack of programs. What are we doing to prevent the "revolving door?"

A. We need to terminate the exessively expensive, useless, and retarded war on drugs. It has not worked, and never will work. It's costing taxpayers way too much, and incarcerating peple for nonviolent crimes is a joke. We need to rethink our boundaries, and become more common sense oriented as a nation.

How long can someone go to prison for fiscal fraud in Canada ?
Q. I live in Canada and someone I know is hiding money in Switzerland. I know that if the government finds out, this person could go to prison. For how long can someone go to prison, according to the Canadian criminal law ?
Asked by That guy - Sun May 2 14:57:25 2010 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Depends on what the offence is. There's nothing inherently illegal about "hiding money" overseas, though there are several circumstances in which it can become a part of a criminal act. Are we talking about tax evasion? (i.e. Making money without declaring the income?) Embezzlement? (i.e. Moving money there that isn't yours in the first place?) Perjury? (i.e. Making false statements while under oath about his financial state to insulate the assets from spousal or creditor claims?) In order to know what kind of penalty he might be looking at, we'd need to know why he's hiding the money and what steps he's taken to conceal it.

A. What's better? freedom - and the freedom to choose which job you'd like to have. If you don't like the cubicle life, then choose something else. Go to prison and you'll have all your choices made for you.

What do prisoners do when they exercise in prison?
Q. I read all this stuff in health and fitness magazines about exercise. They say you have to do this and that, eat this and that. But I'm pretty sue that prisoners don't have the time to make sure they do things like eat 5 whole eggs in the morning and things like that, yet, I see some pretty muscle bound guys come out of prison. Some people look at them and say: "Now those are prison muscles". What do these guys do?

A. Men's prisons have a weight room. Women's prisons have outside equipment for pullups, situps, etc. and they speed walk. They also get store money to buy stuff and they gamble it so some of them have extra food. They all have assigned jobs to do but also have free time.

How prevalent do you think prison suicide is ?
Q. There are obvious factors that determine this . Such as one's prison sentence . Someone serving a 25 yr sentence is obviously going to be more emotional and distraught than someone only serving a 5 year sentence . What do you think ?

A. That could be one reason for it...but have you ever considered that the person going into the jail, at first, could be a candidate for withdrawal from drugs they were doing on the outside..? Sometimes, withdrawal, especially from heroin, or any kind of depressant, can be cause for suicide. Yes, the amount of the sentence probably does have something to do with it... Some other factors could be shame...shame for themselves when they realize what they have done in their life to get where they are at now...in prison... Also maybe the inside of the prison and what is going on in their could have something to do with wanting to commit suicide...say a person is continually raped while in population (in the prison)...this might also make someone… [cont.]

By going to the prison & conducting the interviews, is it possible or likely that I can catch something even if I am extremely careful to not put my hands in my mouth, etc & I clean up very good afterwards? Please give me some advice & what would you do in my situation. Thank you

A. At 7 months pregnant you are vulnerable to anything and everything !! Prisons ,like hospitals or any institution are the dirtiest and most disease prone places on earth!! besides sanitation ,communicability and mobility (new inmates comming in every day) their watchfulness and treatment of existing diseases are virtually non-existent!!! i am surprised that your superior is so thoughtless to put you in such a vulnerable position!!! AND , if he puts you in that type of situation so is he doing likewise to your unborn!!!

A. I agree with Dave, prison is the end result to a hopeless life. You need to get people when they are young and educate them, give them real chances, allow them to develop socially and mentally in ways which will not cause them to become criminals...think about it, people resort to crime (generally) because of desperation, poverty...or they become mentally ill because they have not had a proper environment/nutrition/soc ialization/etc. all this can again be linked back to poverty or neglect (often because someone found money more important than family if actual poverty wasn't an issue). Prison does nothing for society or the criminal, it is an outdated and misunderstood institution, however it operates within the overall society and we… [cont.]

A jail houses persons awaiting trial, and for those who have been found guilty in a court of law and sentenced to less than a year in confinement. A prison houses persons who have been found guilty in a court of law and are sentenced to over one year.

What determines whether someone gets death penalty or life in prison?
Q. Like I know you it's usually for 1st degree murder, but how come some people both have 1st degree murder but some get death penalty and others life in prison? Is the amount of people murdered? I don't think that it is because some people only kill one person and they get death penalty, and another, for the same killing of one person gets life in prison? What determines this, aside from a good lawyer?
