GNU Free Documentation License How come social conservatives see themselves as freedom fighters? Q. How is this not a contradiction. Socially Liberal by definition is for freedom of religion, equal rules for all genders, sexes and sexualities. Social Conservatives have in the past implemented segregation, stopped women from voting and now fight against gay marriage, and a woman's right to an abortion. The extreme right when it comes to social conservatism can be shown by Sharia Law. Now obviously even the most crazy right-wing Americans don't want to go that far, but that is the direction the right takes on a political spectrum.
